Anyway, that recurring theme I mention is TIME. Plain and simple, time is also an advantage when you use an equipment financing company. Mainly because we won’t waste your time.

In plain terms, here’s how an equipment financing company works: You come to our website, and fill out a quick application form. It literally will take you two minutes. Off of this form, we can give you an answer. If it’s “yes” (which it usually is), there’s another form or two (loan agreements, etc.), but again, it’s all very easy, and you can do it right from the comfort of your home. You need not dig out the last three year’s tax returns from the filing cabinet (or last decade’s, which means you have to go in the attic…. ugh). You also don’t have to come to our office (like you would your local bank), and then wait for Loan Officer Barbara, who is on break (again).

So basically, what I am saying is an equipment financing loan is something you can wrap up without ever leaving your house, and generally within a matter of hours (or at worst a day or two). This “time factor” is a big deal for a lot of companies – if they have good credit, they know they can get financing really fast, so there’s no need to prepare for a long finance period. You can take your time deciding on the correct equipment (which is where the time should be spent), because you know that your equipment lease can be had in a snap.
The post Time = Money… and equipment financing gives you both!! first appeared on The Lease Guy.

Ok, so let’s talk about Section 179 again.

If you remember, a few posts ago I mentioned that Section 179 was brought back in the recent “Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment” (HIRE) Act of 2010. But since I posted that pretty much when it passed, I didn’t have time to give the details. Now that I’ve looked closer at the HIRE Act and the Section 179 language, I can give you the full scoop today.

Yes, Section 179 is back. But it’s a little “lighter” than previous years. Let me explain:

As you likely know, Section 179 is the tax code that allows businesses to deduct the full purchase price of equipment bought and put into use during the calendar year. It has been a great boon to businesses, because it gives them a HUGE incentive to purchase (or finance) equipment.

Two years ago, in the face of a softening economy, Section 179 was given a big boost. The limits of the amount of equipment you could deduct were almost doubled, and in addition, “bonus 50% depreciation” was instilled.

Essentially, here’s what Section 179 looked like for the past two years (2008 and 2009):

Total amount of equipment purchased: $800,000 (up from $500,000 in previous years)

Total amount you could deduct: $250,000 (up from $125,000 in previous years)

Bonus Depreciation for equipment exceeding the limit: 50% (up from 0 in previous years)

And I’m happy to say that it’s all back for 2010… except for the bonus 50% depreciation. That part didn’t make it back in this year. And that’s a tiny bit depressing to this equipment financing guy. Because I feel that anything that spurs business equipment purchases is good (and because I’m in equipment financing and work with equipment leases, Section 179 in any form is good for business, so the “bigger” it is, the happier I am… my wife says I’m strange.)

I guess I shouldn’t complain, however. At least the higher limits were kept… for this year, anyway (which I’ll expand on next time.) And maybe the bonus depreciation gets put in as a retroactive deduction later (don’t hold your breath).

But in the end, yes, Section 179 is back – take advantage of it while you can.
The post Section 179 Changes for 2010 first appeared on The Lease Guy.
